Community Philanthropy Update

Greetings Friend,

With the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) kicking off yesterday under the theme "A Watershed Moment: Transformative Solutions to Interlocking Challenges," our eyes are on New York City. The Sustainable Development Goals timeline is nearly half over, and the event serves as a checkpoint and accountability measure. You can stay connected to UNGA happenings over this next week on their website, particularly philanthropy’s contributions to the global conversation. Each year, the Council compiles a list of UNGA side events that are specifically related to philanthropy. Email jessica.chaparro@cof.org to add a philanthropy-related event to the list.

This year, the Council has partnered with the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and WINGS to convene our peers and friends on the importance of increased giving directly to organizations in other countries. Register today to join us on September 20 at the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice for a panel conversation, Philanthropy’s Role in Realizing the Localization Agenda. We’ll discuss the importance of localization efforts at foundations and provide a sneak peek at new data on international giving from US foundations in our upcoming report, The State of Global Giving from US Foundations: 2016-2019, due to be published later this month.

If you can’t make it to our event in person, you can register to view the live stream! Finally, later this year we'll be launching a new localization resource hub on our website that will provide information and tools for foundations interested in increasing the share of their grants going directly to organizations registered in other countries. More information on this resource hub will be shared in a future issue of this newsletter.

Thank you for your continued partnership with the Council to improve the state of global grantmaking and support a healthier, safer world.

Warmly,

Brian Kastner
Director of Engagement
